When a baby is in the womb, their head is pushing on the cervix with every contraction. Then, some doctors/midwifes assist in pulling the baby’s head out to help the process. Each of these things can tweak your baby’s spine out of alignment. At 4 days old, we took Orion to the Chiropractor to set him up for successful development, and I felt that he wasn’t able to turn his head properly to nurse on my right breast. We are SO glad we did!

The chiropractor did a scan of his back and neck with a device and without me saying anything about symptoms, asked if he was having trouble nursing on my right side. He could tell that his neck was out of place on that side so he had limited mobility turning his neck completely. The chiropractor applied a small amount of pressure on different parts of Orion to realign him, and with one visit, he was eating perfectly!

The chiropractor also noticed that Orion’s head wasn’t perfectly uniform and applied pressure to reshape his head. Yes, you read that right, he reshaped his head and we noticeably saw a difference. He attributed his head to Orion’s pallet of his mouth and guessed that his pallet wasn’t uniform so when Orion was sucking, his head was shifting. At the doctor’s command, I stuck my pinky in Orion’s mouth and could feel that the top of his mouth wasn’t perfectly rounded. I applied a small amount of pressure to the top of his mouth, the pressure you apply to feel the ripeness of a tomato, and the chiropractor pressed on Orion’s head. As Orion sucked, his pallet reshaped. I pulled my finger out for a minute and re-felt. The pallet of his mouth was completely uniform.
